We are using sprints in Jira to track stories. Each story may or may not have sub-tasks.
The sprint board is filtered to hide sub-tasks because we only want to track story progress.
The problem is that the sprint board doesn't recognize the "Done" status on the sub-tasks and therefore is not letting us close the sprint.
Based on what I've read, this appears to be because the "done" status isn't mapped to the furthest right column on the sprint board. However, since the filter is suppressing sub-tasks, I'm not actually able to map that status to the column - because the status doesn't show up.
If I update the filter to include sub-tasks, then those sub-tasks show up on the board, which causes a mess.
How is this resolved?
You don't. You need to have the sub-tasks selected by the board for them to work.
As @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- said, you'll have to include the subtasks in the board filter.
You could add a Quick Filter to hide the subtasks from the board. I'm not aware of a way to automatically activate a quick filter, so you would have to select it each time you want to view the board.
Do the subtasks actually have a different "done" status than the one used for Stories and mapped to the right-most column? Is there a reason that they cannot use the same status value?
If the subtasks use the same "done" Status as the value(s) mapped to the right-most column, then the parent issue will be considered complete when the subtasks are in that status, even if the subtasks are not within the scope of the board filter.
