How do you get road map to present versions in order of release date?

The road map for one of our projects is displaying the versions in a random/arbitrary order when we would like them to be in order by release date. I've seen some documentation indicating that the "Fix for Version" field plays a part in this but this field doesn't seem to exist in our JIRA environment. I've checked, and it is not hidden. What can I do to set the road map to display versions in order of releas date?

I think the road map uses the order of the project administration page. At this page, you can adjust the order of the versions.
