How do you change Jira server installation from tar to installer?

I initially installed Jira 7.10 using the tar file on Ubunu.

I want to change over to using the installer. I followed several posts and have moved the home and installation directories to /var/atlassian/application-data/jira/ and /opt/atlassian/jira/ respectively.

Jira successfully runs using the new directories and I've confirmed this in the Jira admin as well as renaming the previous directories, yet when I try the installer and choose option 3 for the 'Choose the appropriate installation or upgrade option'  prompt, the install shows the current installation directory as the old location.

Running the config tool also shows the JIRA Home directory as /var/atlassian/application-data/jira.

I've also confirmed the location of JRE_HOME is set as well.

There's obviously some other place I need to change to have the installer detect the new location but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.

The bin installer is just trying to automatically detect a previous install.  When you're using the command line and following the prompts, you don't actually have to accept the default value the installer purposes to you for this installation path.   You can actually enter in your own value instead here.

If you decline to do that, I believe the default will attempt to the known path.   I believe you should only have to change this once in the installer itself since it sounds like you already moved the installation directory.

Thanks Andrew. I will try that. I just figured it's getting the value from somewhere that could be updated.
