I have enabled the Resolutions field in my workflow. However, I want to make sure that my team chooses a resolution field before they close any work item. How can i make it happen?

First let me say that this is an often asked question in the community and there are lots and lots of posts about this. You basically have two options for forcing the resolution field. The first is to simply statically set it on the transition to any done category statuses. The second, and the one that would seem to fit your request best, is to create a screen with the Resolution field and add that screen to your transition to any done category statuses. Then you add a validator to those same transitions requiring the resolution feel be set. Finally it is important to clear the resolution Field, on any exit transitions from those done category statuses.

I tried this. However, I am still able to close a ticket without setting the resolution field.

Are you going through a "resolve issue" screen when you close the issue?

You don't need to set Resolution mandatory.
If it appears on an edit screen (Create, edit, or transition), then the default value will be selected and cannot be deselected, only another option selected. You cannot leave it blank.
This is why you should never put the resolution on Create or Edit - the issue gets resolved by virtue of the user going through create or edit...
