I have 3 projects where the Epic is automatically hidden from the "Board" view for everyone but I cannot replicate it in a new board. Hidden from anyone i mean that any user that views this board does not have to apply the filter to remove the Epic from view, it is automatically hidden. We do however want the Epics to show in the "List" view.
This board was created by someone who is no longer with our company so I'm not sure what they did. I have compared the boards and it seems like they are the same.
The new project, that I just created, is from the work management > blank project template. My company has the Standard plan and I am an Admin.
Hello @jessicaclarkson
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
You said that your new project was created with a work management template.
What are the project types for the projects where Epic is hidden?
If you go to the Projects menu and select View All Project you will be taken to a page that shows all the projects. The Type column will say what type of project each is.
I suspect that the projects where Epic is hidden may be Software project versus your new project which will display its type as Business.
If it turns out that the other projects actually are Business, can you provide screen images from the List and Board view of one of those projects, showing us that Epics show in the List but not in the Board?
Both boards say Team-managed business.
This project Board view automatically has 1 filter applied for anyone that accesses it. They do not need to go into filters to change it.
My new project Board view, anyone that accesses it has to click on Filter > Task to remove Epic from the list.

I'm not finding anything about setting a filter to be on automatically.
In my own environment it seems to me that the system is simply "remembering" whatever filter and other settings were applied the last time I accessed the board. Whatever filters I have selected, and the Group By option.

It will remember it if you choose it, correct. But i didn't even know that was a thing until this week and that original board Ive never gone in to mess with the filters before and neither has anyone else. It just works.

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. I've never know Jira to have the capability to specify filters that will be on automatically for a board. I'm not finding anything in any documentation to tells of a way to make that happen.
