Does the droplet have at least 4Gb memory?
No, only 1 GB but only three people will be using it.

Sorry, I completely missed the 1GB you said in your question. I should have read more carefully.
That's not going to work. Jira (with no apps added) needs at least 768Mb, Confluence 512 and Synchrony (the collaborative editing service Confluence can use) another 512, and you need to have some room for the operating system as well.
The smallest Jira + Confluence server I have access to, which has 4 users, is a 4Gb machine, with 1Gb for each of those three systems and 1Gb to give the OS some working space.
You could run either Jira OR Confluence and synchrony on your droplet, but there's no chance of running both and having them work. At an absolute minimum, you'll need two 1Gb droplets, one for Jira and one for Confluence/synchrony with minimal memory allowances, but I would strongly recommend giving both systems significantly more than the minimum - at least 1Gb for Jira, 1Gb for Confluence/Synchrony and then some more for the operating system.

Nah, don't apologise, I missed that out initially so I updated it in case I received further comments. You did not miss it, I added it after your comment then I also put the clarification below as well in a new comment, just being thorough.
Makes sense, so 4 GB droplet should be enough for?:
I won't mark this down as an answer just yet, I was also looking for a basic setup guide also on digital ocean or ubuntu rather, as I have no idea how to do it, for example do I do it all through apt-get or what exactly?

Yes, 4Gb should be enough - a gig for Jira and Confluence each and leaving the rest for the OS works fine for 4 people here.
I don't know about droplets, but the installation on most Linux variants can be as simple as "download, create data directory, run installer". https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/installing-jira-applications-on-linux-938846841.html is a good start, and a confluence install is pretty much the same process.

Many thanks, great help. One last question for one of these installations, I will also have the team calendar and knowledge base plugin, do such plugins create an additional severe strain on the memory?

They do increase the memory demands of Confluence, but those two are quite small compared with others. I would not worry about them.
