How do I enable the 'backlog' menu item to show on the left hand side of my board

Louise Griffin August 17, 2018

I have multiple team boards setup in the same Jira and they are all Kanban boards. Some of them have the 'Backlog' item in the left side menu but some of them don't. How do I get this there for the boards that don't have it?

I think Louise is stating that she doesn't have the backlog navigation icon, such as shown below; it would be above the Kanban Board icon. In that case, the opposite of what you suggest, Scott - she'll want to use your same approach but place one or more statuses IN the Kanban backlog column at the far left, thus creating a backlog and activating that navigation icon.

Thanks Payne. Will your solution also mean the backlog column is shown on the board or only the menu icon on the left?

I've just done this and it's worked beautifully. Thanks!

Hi Louise,

Do you have a "Backlog" status in your workflow? If so then open the Kanban board, click the ellipsis on the top right corner, and open Board Settings. That should show you the Kanban backlog column on the far left with your issues in the backlog and another column named "Backlog." If it is not there you can add it by clicking the "add column" button on the right. Once you have that column click the box in the Kanban Backlog that shows the number if issues and drag it over to the Backlog column.
