How do I configure a Jira project to allow labels to be assigned to tasks?

I can assign a label against an epic, but when I create a task, the 'add label' field is missing.  Please could you advise the project can be configured to allow labels to be assigned a against tasks.  I have administrator priviledges but am relatively new to Jira.

Thanks, it appears to be locked down (for my level of priveledges), so I have just emailed our Atlassian support guys.  Thanks very much for your help, I wouldn't otherwise have understood what to ask for.

Hello,

Find the screen, which is used for the Task issue type and add the Labels field to the screen.

You can find screens if you go to Project Settings -> Screens
