How do I add default fields to show up when I open Search?

When I click on Search (top right search box), how do I make certain fields to show up by default?

Per your description, I understand you are trying to set default columns (fields) to display in your issue navigator when you navigate to it. Is that correct?

Indeed, you have two options to configure a default set of columns:

1. Configure a default setting for yourself
2. Configure a default setting for all the users, if you are a site-admin

These would be the steps to do it:

1. Navigate to your issue navigator page > Click to see it in List View:
   
   
2. Use "My Defaults" to configure your own view or "System" to configure a global view for all the users if you are a site administrator:

Hi Petter, thanks for the response, I'm referring for the fields that are in the search query (basic format), not the result set.

Thank you for your explanation.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the default fields from the basic search in Jira. We have the following feature request to allow this change:

Customize the default fields in basic issue search
