How do I add a Backlog Status to a Kanban board?

I went into the Board settings and it says to drag Backlog into the first column, but I don't have a Backlog status?

Hi Greg,

it doesn't necessarily have to be Backlog, rather the first status of your workflow, for example Needs Triage
