Do you use JIRA Server or Cloud?
If you use JIRA Server there is a request to be able to accomplish this, and it seems like it's been added to the Atlassian roadmap:

If you use JIRA Cloud there is the equivalent request:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-25640
, but according to the latest update it seems like there is no plan to implement this feature for the Cloud. If you check the comments though, there are some suggestions related to plugins (e.g. ScriptRunner for JIRA Cloud)
