I want to create hierarchy of Epic>Feature>Story>Task>Sub-Task but JIRA takes feature, story and task at the same level. For large project, I am trying to break down into buckets and then create user stories under that with tasks and sub-tasks. Any recommendations?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

To do this, you'll need to set up the hierarchy globally.  This requires you to be using Advanced Roadmaps (premium subscription).

Also, it won't support your hierarchy as described, as you've got too many layers at the story level.

  • From the bottom up, Jira does
    • Sub-task (part of an issue)
    • Issue (which are Stories or Tasks, and the primary tracking object, living in projects)
    • Epics (These are the first layer of items that can spam projects   You can rename if you want)
  • Advannced Roadmaps allows for further over-layers, typically we see
    • Feature (or Epic if you rename the Epics)
    • Initiative
    • Theme

Hi @hkaur

Welcome to the community !!

As an alternative, you can use issue links to create your own hierarchy.

If you are fine with a mktplace app, to get hierarchy based on Issue links, you can have a look at our add-on -

Issue Hierarchy Reports

and generate insights such as:

- View the full Jira Issue Type hierarchy of Linked issues,
Portfolio/Advanced Roadmaps, Epics, and Subtasks up to 10 levels.

- % complete based on time spent and story points at each hierarchy level

- Sum up Time Spent, Org Estimate, Time Rmng, custom number
fields
