How can import my bug reports without losing the proper spacing in the text?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Creating issues using the CSV importer

When I import all the text from the description field of my CSV file into JIRA and map it as description the formatting is gone. It is one big mashed up text. I have to go in a reformat it by hand. Basically I tap return a couple dozen times to recreate the spacing that was lost. How can import my bug reports without losing the proper spacing in the text?

I suspect that if you look at the raw text of what has been imported, the spaces are all there.

But browsers render multiple normal spaces as one, so it loses your formatting.  You can force it to render spaces by formatting your text as preformatted in the editor, but that's not something you can import from CSV
