How can I validate programmatically the user input in Jira Announcement Banner?

I would like to extend the functionality of the Announcement Banner in Jira so before the message is saved/set the user input is validated against a set of rules. E.g. it contains valid HTML, valid JavaScript, etc.

I know that external tools can be used to validate first and then paste the message back to Jira but I would prefer to have this functionality built into Announcement Banner.

welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Unfortunately there is no known option to me as for a validation of the Announcement Banner. The assumption might be that it only can be set by administrators - they need to be trained in one way or the other. Of course you might say this prevents nobody from a malformed formatting of an Announcement Banner - whereas this even is the mildest side effect to date.

Maybe you can have a look at Marketplace for an App like "Announcer" (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211928/announcer-for-jira?hosting=server&tab=overview) - this provides more options for formatting the Announcement Banner.

Please note: there might be more Apps out there - I am not affiliated with the vendor in any way. It is just one I know from the past.

Thank you, Daniel! That was also my supposition, which is now confirmed by you. I will investigate other options.
