I want to quickly create a task from a story WITHOUT creating a completely separate issue. I know I can create sub-tasks easily from the task screen. But creating tasks from stories seems a bit more round-about.
Hi @Former User
Could you explain what you refer as 'Create a task from a story'?
Only subtasks are created from a standard task. Perhaps you meant like a linked issue?
Hi @Fazila Ashraf, I understand SUBTASKS can be created from the standard TASK easily by clicking the 3 dot menu on the right of a TASK.
I'm wondering if there's an easy way to easily create a standard TASK by clicking the 3 dot menu on the right of a STORY.
^Is there an add-on or a hierarchy setting I can change to enable the above?^
Or is linking the issue the only way to link a STORY issue type to a TASK issue type
My hierarchy currently looks like:

Hi @Former User,
I had the same problem a while ago and had to learn, that the hierachy of items in jira is not as expected.
The basic point is, that Story and Task are on the same level. Subtasks can be used to split any of those.
1. Epic
2.1 Story 2.2 Task 2.3 Bug ....
3. Subtask
Hope this helps

Just to be clear - Story and Tasks might be at the same level. You can create an issue type called "Task" and set it as a subtask type or an issue type. Subtasks belong to issues, issues do not have parents (but can belong to epics).
If you looked at a range of Jira systems, you'll find a mix of configs, some people have tasks at the same level as stories, others have them as subtasks.
