How can I effectively plan team capacity based on individual expertise?

I'm using Jira Premium with access to Plans (formerly Advanced Roadmaps).
Currently, I can only set the overall team capacity in the Team module (weekly hours):

However, I need the flexibility to set individual capacities for each team member based on their expertise and availability.

For example:

  • Developer A (Backend) has 120 hours available in Sprint 1 but only 80 hours in Sprint 2 due to a planned vacation.
  • Developer B (Android) has 120 hours in Sprint 1 but only 60 hours in Sprint 2 because they'll be working on another project for the remainder of the sprint.

What I want:

Is there a way to achieve this in Jira Plans?
If not, are there any recommended add-ons that could help manage individual capacities?

Thanks !

Hello @Etai Leers !

I'd recommend going to the Atlassian Marketplace by clicking here.

You'll find apps that help manage individual and team capacities.

One such app that does both very well is called Capacity Planner by Tempo Software

With Capacity Planner, you can set individual capacities for each team member using holiday and workload schemes to know their exact availability.

Full disclosure - I work for Tempo Software in their Product Marketing department.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me directly.

You may want to consider a plugin for Jira to achieve a more effective individual capacity plan.

One of our plugins - Teamboard TimePlanner can meet your requirements. It allows you to define individual capacity, helping you manage the workload in the projects you are involved.

If a member has planned for vacation, they can directly submit their leave requests, then the system will adjust their capacity accordingly. This also helps to display the workload based on the availability of each member.

I hope this will help! If you have any other questions or need additional information, feel free to let me know.
Have a nice day!
