How can I do a historical JQL search using a custom field as date range?

Athira Krishnan February 16, 2023

Hi Atlassian Community,

I want to find out what the status of an issue was on a certain date. However, the date is in a custom field.

So, the JQL will be something like this: status WAS New ON customfield

It looks like parameters like ON only support absolute values like '2023/02/16' and relative values like '-4d'. If that's the case, is there a workaround that would let me get this information?

Hi @Athira Krishnan

As it was said in the previous answer, JQL doesn't support history searches for custom fields.

For your request, you can try Issue History for Jira app. Here you can monitor changes for any standard or custom field. Also, you can filter issues by any date range you need.

In your case, you need to include your custom field in the table – open Columns manager.

The app is developed by my team. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @Athira Krishnan ,

As I checked the dates fields do not support historical searches:

"History searches do not support the 'duedate' field"

Here is an article which might be helpful for you: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Marketplace-Apps-Integrations/History-searches-with-amp-without-JQL-10-examples/ba-p/2017596
