How can I close active Sprints from a deleted Project?

I created several projects because I wanted to test different setups. In these projects I had two active sprints. Since I do not need all the projects, I just deleted them. Now the problem is that the two active Sprints are still visible in the dropdown menu of tasks and stories. How can I delete or close the sprints? I thought that when I delete a project then all sprints are also deleted. Seems that is not the case.

This issue that you are facing is related to a known bug, where sprints are not deleted when the board/project is deleted:

• Unable to delete orphan sprint
• On agility projects, related sprints remain active after a board is deleted
