We are using a team-managed Jira Cloud project and primarily work out of Board view (Kanban-style columns).
While we are using JQL filters and List view to sort by due date, most of the team defaults to Board view, which only supports manual ranking (drag and drop). This has led to tickets occasionally getting lost or appearing out of order, especially when trying to prevent missed due dates.
I’ve researched this and found that:
Team-managed boards do not allow editing the underlying JQL filter.
You cannot apply ORDER BY duedate to control board sorting.
Board view appears to be strictly controlled by manual ranking.
Sorting by due date is only available in List view.
Is there any way to configure a team-managed board so that Board view automatically sorts issues by due date (ascending or descending) for all users?
If not natively, are there any recommended workarounds within Jira Cloud (without third-party marketplace apps)?
We are on Jira Cloud Premium.
Hi,
Team-managed boards do not support automatic sorting by Due Date.
Possible workarounds:
• Use filters (e.g., “Due soon”) to highlight upcoming issues
• Manually drag issues to reorder them
• Add Due Date to card layout for visibility
• Use a saved search ordered by Due Date
• Consider a company-managed project if advanced board sorting is required
