I am trying to create a few different issue layouts for my project.

I have one issue layout for stories, tasks, subtasks and one for bugs.

I want one for features and epics that has some additional fields that the others do not require, but when I try to associate another layout to my jira company managed project it always tries to associate all the current ticket types to the new layout instead of adding it as a third option.

How many issue layouts can a project have and if it's more than two, how do I associate the third one to my project?

Hello @jacob_paul

Welcome to the community.

Do you have separate Screen configurations for the feature and epic issue types?

I have not used the Project Settings > Issue Layout before, but I see that it says

  • Where issue types share the same screen configuration, you'll edit their field ordering together and they'll appear in a group below.

Can you show us your Issue Layout screen?

I have separate screens set up for each issue type, but I can only seem to set two up. If I try for a third Jira wants to associate everything to the new screen configuration.

In this screenshot I have one of the issue types (Features) not associated to anything.

In the Issue Layouts screen you will see

1. The issue types available in your project

2. Those issue types grouped by the Screen configuration they use.

In the image you've shown us

1. Feature is not shown. That leads me to believe that Feature is not an Issue Type available in this project.

2. The issue types Story, Epic, Task, Sub-task are grouped together as using the same Screen configuration. Therefore, those issues will also use the same Issue Layout as per

  • Where issue types share the same screen configuration, you'll edit their field ordering together and they'll appear in a group below.

So if you want an Issue Layout for Epics that is different from Story/Task/Sub-task, you will first need to create a new Screen configuration (or copy the existing Screen configuration assigned to Epic), and associate Epic to the new Screen configuration.

If you want an issue Layout for Feature, you will first need to add Feature to the Issue Types available for the project, and also associate it with its own Screen configuration, including that Screen configuration in the projects' Screen Scheme
