How are issues impacted with a project key change?

How are issues impacted with a project key change?

I need to change a project key and name to reflect a new direction for the team. If I change the project key, will the issue numbers stay the same? Meaning, will issue: ABC-123 update to XYZ-123 or will the number reindex?

Yes, Nic has shared the answer. However, please take care of the groovy scripts, plugin configured to the project (hard-coded) and scripts via external applications integrated.

The change only affects the key of the issues and project. The sequence numbers will remain the same.
