Hi everyone,

I am new to manage Jira projects, so I hope you can help me out. I have the following problem:

When I cancel an issue via the "cancel issue" button a pop-up appears, in which I can select the resolution (in this case "canceled"). When I choose the Resolution "Canceled" the issue gets moved into our "DONE" Column which is mapped with the "Closed" Issue Status.

I would like to find a way how to achieve that when canceling an issue with the resolution canceled moves my issue to another Column, e.g. "Cancelled".

I already tried to map the issue status "declined" with the "Cancelled" column, but this solves my problem not really, since the cancel issue button way still is available and leads to the undesired moving into the "DONE" Column.

Do you have any idea how to edit the "Cancel Issue" button actions?

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards,

Christopher

Hi @Christopher Tremmel , welcome to the community.

So to be able to accurately answer your question, can you please answer the following for me?

  • are you on a company managed or team managed project? He will find the answer in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
  • Are you using scrum or kanban board?

In the meantime, something to be aware of as you begin to address your issue. The way boards work is that the right most column is used to convey completed issues. Should you move an issue into canceled which resolves into a column that is not the right most column then those issues will continue to appear on the board unless you specifically exclude them in your boards filter. What this all means is that generally speaking, it is desirable to show all done issues in the right most column regardless of why they are done (resolution value), i.e. done, cancelled, won't do, etc.

Hi @Jack Brickey

thank you very much for your fast reply. Below my answers:

  • I assume in a company-managed project, since the "you're in a team-managed project" message does not appear as stated in this article
  • We are using a Kanban Board.

I get your point, thank you for the explanation. However this is the requirement I have to deal with that the most right column should be the "cancelled" column and that cancelled issues should not be displayed in the "Done" column.

Is there a way to achieve that?

Thx in advance!

Hi @Christopher Tremmel , ok so we will assume CMP. If you click on the ellipses in the upper right you can choose Board settings as shown below.

Within board settings you can choose Columns. In this screen you can map you statuses to the desired columns. With that said, I highly recommend that all done category statuses or mapped to the right hand column. Do not match your "done" to any other column as it will break your board features, e.g. using the Release feature or the board's ability to age done issues off the board to keep it currently and usable.
