Our team wishes to group stories into future sprints (beyond the current active one) so that proper grooming and dependencies can be identified in advance.  Ideally we would be creating stories and putting them into the inactive Sprint(s) so that at the proper time we close the current Sprint and then Activate the next one quickly.

How can this be done as my JIRA instance appears to only allow ONE sprint to be created and active at any given time?

Perhaps there is a way to group the backlog into "buckets" or grouping of stories that can be shifted into an active sprint?

Hello @Bennett C Seyer

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

There is a global option that determines if you can have more than one Active sprint at a time. However that does not affect the ability to have multiple future sprints. You should be able to create new sprints and populate them.

Are you able to create a new sprint if there are not active sprints?

If you are not able to create additional sprints, you may be encountering a permissions issue. The Manage Sprints permissions is required to be able to create sprints.
