I have a lot of incoming mail handlers, and i have experienced that they sometimes stops running.

The reason is not always obvious, but can be many ex. firewall changes, password changes and so on. The fix is easy, just restart them.

But sometimes they have been off for days/weeks, and it is first when an employee start wondering why there isn't coming any new issues to a project?

So my question is:

Is it possible to get notified if the mail handler fails?

I would recommend to find some notifications options outside JIRA for example using Outlook. You can set up a Search Folder that will show you old emails (might be older than 1 day),

put it on favorites and have all counters from all handlers in one place..

If there will be a number (like above -> 20) it means that mailbox is not process or some emails are stuck in the Inbox.. You can playaround of course with the search criteria, to mach your needs.
