Hello everyone,
I have not used slack with Jira yet, but I am wondering what benefit would it bring for our team.
I understand that slack makes it easier to communicate and replaces the need to use emails for small issues to an extent. We are already using skype for business- what more would Slack bring to the table other than streamlining organization through chat/group chat etc?
Thanks in advance!
At a high level it connects to Jira allowing notifications from Jira on activities within a chat room/channel. You can also create issues from within the chat room.
here is one of the plugins you may want to read about.
You may also want to consider MS Teams as it is replacing S4B. It is a very nice chat app that integrates with the MS world well. However the current integration with Jira is more limited. It is my hope that they will introduce an improved integration in time.
Hello Jack,
Thank you for the answer and the link, that's a plugin for cloud- we're looking at this one since we are using a server: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1215378/slack-connector-for-jira-server?hosting=server&tab=overview
The news about the transition from S4B is new to me, I will have to see if my colleagues are aware of that. I have been reading up on Slack (we do not use Slack right now) the last few weeks and I understand that it makes communications slightly more streamlined. Would I be wrong if I said that a Slack add-on in JIRA would be useful because of the following reasons?:
1) The jira-integration would help us communicate better in the sense that we would be able to mention issues in comments (see short summary when we do that).
2) We would be able to work on issues (edit status etc) in Slack-comments using further slack add-ons.
Is there anything else I am overlooking/have missed? Any other functionality/advantages a slack integration would offer?
Thank you!

yes I would say that is accurate. For sure having a chat integrated w/ Jira is a HUGE benefit. I don't use Slack either so I can't provide the details of how it behaves but I have used HipChat and currently use Stride. However, given the benefits of Teams and the fact that the company as a whole would never use Stride I'm leaning toward Teams at the moment even though I loose a few nice integration functions.

Hello Jack,
Thank you for the response. Are you also doing any test management with Jira? We do not use Jira for test mmg. at the moment but are considering doing it in the future. In case you have any experience with the X-Ray integration, please take a look at the other question I have posted:

Thank you!
Best regards, Shah
