Function to assign a JIRA to any state

Is there any function that a project admin can move any JIRA from one state to another even if it is not a part of the workflow.

Example:

1. Open > Assign > Work > Test > Close

2. Currently the JIRA is in Test state

3. Due to whatever reason, need to have the ability for the admin to move it to whatever state - e.g., from Test to Assign

The transition all to a state is there but is there any functionality to move a JIRA to any state?

Thanks,

Lillian

No. There needs to be a workflow path.

Oh that's unfortunate... On a system I worked on, there was a "Any State" State where admins can move a JIRA to any....

Ok thanks for your quick response!

The JIRA admin can setup a workflow that allows that, but it has to be setup that way. Often the transition is protected so only project admins or jira admins can execute it.

My workflow is huge so I didn't want to create tonnes of transitions to accommodate that ... Or is there something I'm missing? Is there an easy way to set this up?

No.  You have to have transitions to enable status change.  It is not a "field", it is an indicator of the position and path through the workflow.  You can only change it with transitions.

Dang... Yes understand - in the system I used to use, it was actually a Transition called
"Any State" where us admins can select the state we wanted to move the ticket to. Thanks for the confirmation. Much appreciated.
