Fields in Issue Layout defer from defined Screen for that Issue Type

Hi all, I hope you can help here.

I go to the Issue Layout for User Story. This issue layout is defined by "User Stories General Screen" and for example I see "Reporter" field in the issue layout that I didn't defined in the "User Stories General Screen". Any ideas why is that behaviour?

Thanks in advance

Nico

Hi Nicolas,

Welcome to Atlassian Community.

I see you are looking to configure a screen in Jira and are curious to understand why the reporter field is appearing in the screen for that issue type, even though you did not explicitly add it to that screen.

The reporter field, along with several other fields like summary, status, issue type, and others) are actually system fields.  They do not always behave the same ways that other custom fields will in Jira.  As such the fact this field always appears on a view screen is actually expected.   This is explained in the documentation page:  Defining a Screen

System fields on View Issue screen — System fields on the default 'View Issue' screen (e.g. Summary, Security Level, Issue Type, etc.) are fixed. This means that they will always appear in the same place on the 'View Issue' screen, even if you configure the Screen to move them onto a separate tab. Custom fields of related to Dates and People will also appear in their fixed section of the view issue screen. If none of the fields on a tab contain data then the tab is not shown. To make a tab show up, make sure it has a custom field with a type such as Text or Select and that the field has a value.
Note, this information only applies to the screen associated with the 'View Issue' operation in a screen scheme.

In this case, the reporter is actually a system field that will always appear on the view screen regardless of whether or not you add them manually.

I'm not sure if you are seeking to remove this field from this screen, but I found an existing feature request for this in JRACLOUD-20138.

I hope this helps.

Andy

Hi Andrew, thanks for your answer, I think you answer my question, even though Documentation says "etc.", so I didn't notice that Reporter was a System Field, is that tagged anywhere?

On the other hand, yes, you are right, I am seeking to remove that field from that screen, but it seems I have to wait for that ticket implementation.

Hi Nicolas,

That is a fair point.  I should have referenced these other fields better.  Please see the Issue fields and statuses for a more complete list.

Regards,

Andy
