I’m trying to create a new custom field with the Approvers List field type. While I see existing custom fields using this type, it isn't available in my 'Create Field' selection menu.
I have already attempted the suggested workaround to use a User Picker (multiple users) field, linked it to the project and request type, and associated it with the workflow's 'Approve' status. However, the field does not appear in the Approver Field dropdown within the workflow approval settings. How can I enable or select the native Approver type for new fields?
This is the default field created when setting up a JSM Team Managed project.
You can't create these type of fields.
If you want to use other filed when using approval, you will need to create user picker fields.
If you create a new User Picker field with the Fields Section of Jira administration, you need to add this field to the Team Managed project first before you can use it there.
This via the space settings ,and the Fields option, then use the Add Field button to find the created field.
Hi Marc, I did try this workaround but no luck.
I have created a new custom field with fieldtype User Picker:
I have then added it to the project:
However, the field is not available as a selection in the Approvers status:

No this won't work the other options you see are field of type Approval List, these fields have been created based on creation of a JSM Team Managed space.
No other custom fields from type user picker can be used here.
This is a limitation of the Team Managed project.
Suggestion is to use a Company Managed project.

@Marc -Devoteam- Thank you for the response. Is there a way to switch this from Team Managed Project to Company Managed project?

You will need to create a Company Managed project, then you need to bulk move all issues.
Of course you need to to make sure on the new company managed project you schemas, workflows, etc are inline with your current setup in the Team Managed project.
Aslo see this KB; https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/migrate-between-team-managed-and-company-managed-projects/
there is no simple press of a button action, as the space setup is completely differnet
