Thanks for providing the console details, and checking out the error:

'Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received'

I found several hits on various forums indicating that the error you are seeing is most likely related to a browser extension causing the failure to occur,

EXE, in the following Stackoverflow post as user encountering this error relating to the the browser extension "Video Downloader professional":

And the following thread on a Github forum for the tool caused by a different Extension "Live Server":

I recomend disabling all browser add-ons as a first step to see if this is the case, and let me know what you find.
