Export custom reports to Ms Excel

Hello all,

i have a query, regarding how we can change the exported file version to meet higher versions of MS Excel like MS Excel 2007 or Ms Excel 2010,

currently i have used the inbuilt method as

String generateReportExcel(ProjectActionSupport action, Map reqParams)

with the help of this method i am able to export it in MS Excel 97-2003 format.

is there any method for this or i have to do this manually,if i have to this manually then can any one guide me ho can i achieve this..

it is working in ms office 2010 also but shows some warning stating the type compatibilty issue.
