Dear Sir, Madam,

We are interested in the ability to export a Jira record in JSON format.  Is this available as part of the standard product?

Regards,

Krishna

Hi @k-allam

Yes it is.

You can export issues from the search page (Issues > Search for Issues). One of the options via the "Export" button is JSON.

The REST API also uses JSON as its communication method.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for your prompt feedback.  We may be missing some option in the Jira package we have.  The following is all I see under "Export"  Would you kindly advise of what we may be missing?

Hi @k-allam

Make sure the JSON modules are activated for your instance.

You'll need to be a Jira Admin / Site Admin for this, then follow the instructions on this page.

You might find depending on your version of Jira that phrases that mention "Add-Ons" on the page are replaced with "Apps" - such as "Manage Apps"

Hello,

If you need structured JSON for specific records, migrations, or integrations - the native export can be limited depending on your Jira version and configuration.

It's 2026 and I wanted to share that I've built Owly JSON Data Exporter specifically for this use case  - structured JSON export from Jira and Confluence Data Center.
It's a paid app on the Atlassian Marketplace with a 30-day free trial. Hopefully saves some time.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Cheers,
Ignat
