Should it be possible to download and run both (evaluation copies of) Confluence and Jira on a single computer?  (Windows 10, 16G RAM,  6-Core i7-8750H CPU).

I see that both use their own embedded Tomcat. But adjusting either software to non-default ports with the GUI installer leads to instability in both products.

Reinstalling has not helped, and I am beginning to suspect that the uninstall is not truly 'clean'.

Must one use two different physical machines to see the two products running alongside each other?

Or should I keep working at in on my laptop?

Thanks
Laurence Montgomery

Hi Laurence,

welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Although it should be possible to run both evaluations on the very same laptop by changing ports it might come in handy to separate both installations, for example by using a virtual environment (like provided by VirtualBox for free).

Using a virtual machine would provide you in many cases additional advantages like a snapshot (in case you are trying different things out and want to roll back the one case or another).

From the specifications the laptop should meet the requirements (all said under the assumption it is just for a learning/evaluation approach!).

Cheers,
Daniel
