Error sorting columns in kanban board

dubrox
March 3, 2026

I just added a new status and with it came a new column automatically added to the Kanban board. Now I want to move the column to where it belongs for the flow sequence, but no matter the approach I use, I keep getting errors.

I tried by using the 3 dots options from the column. I tried dragging it. And also tried from the board configuration view. No luck.

Here some animated GIFs showing my attempts:

I also tried by deleting browser data and refreshing the page multiple times, using a different browser never used for this before, but no luck.

As I'm on a free plan, I'm publishing this issue in the forum. Hopefully someone knows a workaround.

Hello @dubrox ,

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community :)

Looks like this is a team managed space. I tested in my instance and it works fine for me. Can you open developer tools on your browser, and capture network logs and perform the same operation ( move column and save the view ) and when it errors out, stop the traces and see what error it shows in logs?

Hi @Shalini Pradhan thanks for joining to help.
I did what you suggested and got interesting insights from the network log. The error response mentions no permission to update columns for board 1. (Note: board 1 is the only board in existence for now).
This comes unexpected as I created and maintained the board and I am presented with the configuration options and views. I now tried to add admin rights to another user I control and try from that one, but I get the same errors.
Please find the response details below. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hello @dubrox ,

Good day! Thank you for the analysis.

Can you share the screenshot of the workflow that the workitem types are using? From screenshot,it looks like all workitem types are using same workflow.

Navigate to your space settings -> Workflows, -> select any work item type ->Edit workflow and share the screenshot.

Are there any properties added to the incoming transition of Tech review status?

Hi @Shalini Pradhan

Here is the screenshot you requested:

Screenshot From 2026-03-08 23-07-27.png

Indeed all workitem types use the same workflow, I did not define any other workflows.

There are no properties added to the incoming transitions nor to the status of Tech Review.

I also now enabled on Tech Review status the option "Allow work items in any status to move to this one" and test if that would make the error go away, but unfortunately it didn't change the outcome.

Anything else I can provide to make it easier to investigate the root cause fix the issue?

Just curious, have you tried attempting this on a different browser?
Do you have any other space having the same issue or just this one?

This is the only space I have and I tried both with Chrome and Firefox. On Firefox I also completely wiped all browser data to be sure not to have any cookie, local storage or else that could interfere. Then logged in and tried.

Still getting the same error. Here a screenshot of the error in Firefox:

Hi @dubrox - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Atlassian is aware that there is an issue with the boards and their team is working on it. Wait just a little while and try again.

Thanks John for your prompt reply. Would you be able to point me to the corresponding bug report?

I've been looking for it on jira.atlassian.com but could not find one that matches the problem I'm reporting.

I would like just to follow it so that I get notified when the issue gets resolved.

It should be resolved by now. Are you still having problems?

Yes. I still have the same problem.

I just attempted the same procedures again now to see if any of them would work, but all of them still error out in the same way.

Okay, thanks for the update. Let me see if someone from Atlassian can come help you.
