Epics displayed as User story

Sandra January 21, 2022

Hi!

Recently for some people at my company Epics are displayed as a User Story, what I mean by this is when you hoover over the Epic-logo the issue type name is "User Story" instead of "Epic". See picture for example.

We don't even have the issue type User story in this project and for me it's correct and shows it's an Epic. Does anyone else have this problem? It seems like a new bug.

Hi all!

Atlassian helped us to found the issue and it was the following:

The issue was the issue-type translation.

You can find the Issue Type Translations "Jira settings -> Issues -> Issue Types -> Click on the three dots beside any of the issue types and click Translate", then check the issue type that has the problem. Both on English United states and UK.

So I had Epics translated on UK and when I removed this it worked as expected again! 🄳

Hi Sandra - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

That's really weird - have never seen that before. It might be a browser issue for them. Have them try another browser or temporarily disable any extensions to see if that helps.

Hi @Sandra_Ferroni -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Yes, and...to what John suggests:

I wonder if this is a user's permissions issue impacted by the new issue view.  As shown in this defect (and suggestion) when the person does not have edit permission for the issue type an error is shown, so perhaps it is now showing another type...as you note the User Story isn't available in the project:

Kind regards,
Bill

Thank you both for your replies!

Yeah it's a weird issue but as you said could be related to the permissions, will take a look at that and see if it might help! :)

She already have permission to edit issues and tried adding another one that should help but nothing changed. She also have the same permissions as another employee that don't have this issue, so there shouldn't be any difference. Changing browser didn't help either, so strange!

What is even more weird is that "User story" doesn't even exist in our project, only Story, so not sure where it even comes from šŸ˜…

I would go ahead and submit a support request to Atlassian:

https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

Please post back here with the solution so we can close it out.
