How do I move a child issue thats part of an epic without moving all the child issues associated with that epic?

Hi @Clarissa Klimek  -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What do you mean by "move a child issue"?

If you want to change the child to be part of another epic, you could clear/edit the Epic Link.  That would leave the other children unchanged.

Best regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the quick response. I am creating a sprint and only want to pull in some of my child issues from the epic but it looks like I cannot separate the epic from the child issue and all of the issues in the epic are coming into the sprint.

Thanks for the image; that helps!  Do you mean issue RW-24 that you have selected?  That appears to be a Story, with Sub-tasks.

There are normally three levels of issue types in out-of-the-box JIRA:

  • Epics
  • Story, Bug, and Task
  • Sub-task

You normally add issue types like Stories, Bugs, or Tasks to a sprint.  Any of those could have children (Sub-tasks).  Bringing in the parent brings in all of the children.

Epics are different, and are normally a bigger chunk of work that would span sprints.

For RW-24, if you really need the pieces brought into different sprints, change them into something other than sub-tasks using the move function to convert them.
