Epic link is not able to load from Excel file for bulk upload

Liyaz p October 26, 2022

I probably do bulk upload from Excel. But Epic link is not able to load from Excel file. Tried Epic link field with Epic link and Epic name also, showing error while uploading.

I tried doing it by manually which takes my time

Hello @Liyaz p

Welcome to the community.

What is the error you are getting?

What value are you providing when you use Epic Link?

What type of issue are you trying to create during the upload?

What version of the Jira product are you using?

Are you trying to create the Epic during the import, or does the Epic already exist in Jira before you import data?

Is the Epic Link field available for the type of issue you are trying to create and make a child of the Epic?

When providing a value for Epic Link in your import file are you providing just the issue key for the Epic issue; i.e. ABC-123?

I am using JIRA SERVER (V8.20.11).

EPICS are already created i am trying to add story test cases to it.

Using importer i am trying to add test cases from Excel

I have tried giving Epic link in Epic link field.

Also tried with only Epic name

But showing up error for both ways

Hello @Liyaz p

I think I may have misunderstood an import part of your scenario.

You said you are "using importer ... from Excel".

Are you using an app/plug-in for Jira that allows you to directly connect from Excel to Jira? If so, which app are you using?

I have assumed you were using the CSV import feature, and just using Excel to create the CSV file, and then using the CSV import feature in Jira to import the data.

If you are using the CSV import in Jira:

1. Are you accessing it from the Jira Administrator option for External System Import, or are you accessing it from the Advanced Issue Search screen?

2. Can you show us the actual value you have in your import data for Epic Link, and show us a screen image of the Epic in Jira so that we can confirm the issue key in you import data matches the issue key for the Epic in Jira? (Black out other confidential data.)

3. And finally, confirm for us that you (or the the person running the upload if not you) can access that Epic directly in Jira.
