Epic link in the bulk change

Farah November 10, 2021

Hello there

I'm working on two projects on JIRA where I am Administrator.

I want to modify the Epic link for several issues by using the bulk change feature.

I found the field to modify on the tickets for the first project but not for the second.

I have access to bulk change on the two projects though.

Thank you for your help

Hello @Farah

Welcome to the community.

Is the second project a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? It will say at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left when you are viewing the project.

In a Team Managed project, the child issues keep track of their parent Epic through the Parent field rather than the Epic Link field.

In such projects I know that we can't add the Parent field to the display for child issues, and therefore cannot change a child issue's parent by directly editing the field. You may find that is also not supported in the Bulk Change feature. I haven't checked to see if it is supported.

Hello Trudy

Thank you for your answer. Both are team managed projects.

I can't see any difference between them.

If both projects are Team Managed, you would not have found the "Epic Link" field in the list of modifiable fields when you used the Bulk Change > Edit Issue option. That field is only available in Company Managed projects. Epic Link is used in Team Managed projects and so would not display when using Bulk Change to edit Team Managed project issues.

Then I use a filter to retrieve Stories from a Team Managed Software project, then select Bulk Change > all issues > Edit, the list of fields shows me the Parent field. The Epic Link field is not included in the list.

When my filter includes issues where changing the Parent would not be valid, and I include those issues in the ones I select after clicking Bulk Change, then the Parent field does not display. What is the filter that you are using to select your issues?
