Epic burndown shows "There are no estimated issues in this epic."

We have built the following hierarchy in JIRA:
Epic > Feature > Story
The out of the box Epics in JIRA are features for us.
The Epic burndown won't produce a chart for any feature whatsoever. Even though all stories under those features have estimates in user story points, the burndown displays an error message:
There are no estimated issues in this epic.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
