Epic/Theme in Jira ticket not showing in Portfolio but IS showing vice-versa

Can anyone assist with how to resolve the following:

Editing the Epic/Theme field in Jira ticket does NOT transfer to Portfolio but if I make the changes in Portfolio  to a ticket and apply the Epic/Theme the changes ARE reflected in the Jira ticket.  I want this to be bi-directional.
