Hi

I wondered if it is possible for 2 users only to recieve email notifications when either of them are assigned an issue.

i don't believe it is possible from the investigations I've done and appreciate it may be tall order but just wanted to double check

Not by default in JIRA.

You can, however, write a little plugin - in JAVA or as a simple script, that fires a new event when either of those users are assigned. Then modify the notification schemes to subscribe to that new event.
