When I click on edit link in a comment, if I edit the link's URL destination and click save, it does not actually update the destination.

(disclaimer, i dont know cloud, but suspect it is like server.)

When you type in a URL in a comment, Jira tries to be "intelligent" and convert it to a "link". A link is a particular macro in jira that contains 2 parts.

  • The actual Target of the link
  • The Text you want the link to say

Jira makes both of those the same thing by default. But when you then edit the text, you are only editing the text you want the link to say, not the target. (but you knew that already)

Comment editing has 2 "modes" Visual, and Text. Visual is a stripped down version of the confluence editor that attempts to render on the fly the wiki markup that is the actual content of the comment. Unfortunatly, from this mode you cant edit the target of the link. You have to switch to "Text" mode. (there will be a tab at the bottom of the comment box)

In text mode, you can see the actual wiki markup that makes up the comment. In particular, you will see something like

[link title |http://example.com/]

The vertical bar is the separator between the  link text and the link target. Update them both to what you want them to be.

You can then switch back to visual mode to see how it looks. You can switch back and forth as much as you want before saving.

Hope that helps. As I said, I don't know cloud so the screen might be different, but that's how it works in server.
