I am also facing similar issue while connecting from my JIRA based application running on cloud, to another jira application which is on prem.
When I am trying to link any issue to my ticket getting below error: for avatar
viewavatar:1 GET https://_internal_aplication_on_prem/jira/secure/viewavatar?size=xsmall&avatarId=19435&avatarType=issuetype net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
Every now and then I happen to get this similar error sometimes too. I am intensively accessing multiple Jira sites and instances and sometimes it looks as if the authentication mechanisms loose track when I click around just a little bit too much.
What usually helps is to clear my browser cache and reload.
