I have a strange problem where the Field Due Date is sometimes missing from the Edit Issue Screen if and only if the issue is currently in the status Backlog.
In addition, if its in the status "Backlog" and there is already a value for the field such that it is visible on screen - it can not be edited inline, all other fields can.
To specify: I do have the schedule issue permission. The Field is added to all appropriate screens (Create Issue, View Issue, Edit Issue). If the issue is in another status in the workflow, the field is editable via inline edit and view the Edit issue screen as intended.
What am I missing? Is the status backlog somehow special in this way, that it forbids editing the Due Date for some reason? If yes - where can I change this behaviour?

Please check if you don't have any properties set on status. You can check it when you will edit workflow.
