Done epics keep showing up in the Epic Links field on tickets regardless of "Show Done Epics" check status.
Project Type:
Classic Project.
Steps to reproduce:
Epics have two status fields
- Status (like you see on other issues)
- Epic Status
The Epic Status is set to Done when you use the Mark As Done option seen in the Epics pane of your board
Marking Epics as "done" in that way also removes them from the Epics pane.
It is that status that is being checked by the Epic Link field when you use the Show Done Epics option.
This field is not usually displayed in the view of the Epic, nor is it typically directly editable by users. You can display it as part of the Columns in List View on the Search Issue screen, though, to see what its value is.
For the Epics you see in the list, when the Show Done Epics box is unchecked, what is the value of the Epic Status field?
In our instance we have added Post Functions to the transitions in our Workflow for Epic type issues to set the Epic Status field to Done when the issue transitions to a "done" status, and to reset it to "To Do" when the Epic transitions to a "not done" status. That way we don't have to remember to use the Mark As Done option.
That must be it. I can't access this pane in our project.
Mu assumption is that our admins have hidden it.

The Epics pane is a setting for the agile Board. The Administrator(s) for the board can turn it on.
On a board for a Company Managed projects the board Administrator would go to Board Settings > Columns, and turn on the option.

Are you setting the “Epic Status” to done not just the issue “Status”?

Ah, that was my mistake. I had no idea there is second status for marking an epic as done.
How confusing.
