Do I need a license to upgrade a 5.2 on premise db to 7.10 in preparation to move to Cloud?

Quick question, but since the migration page links me back to the Migration Hub and vice versa:

We're looking to migrate our old 5.2 +Agile on premise installation to the Cloud, but we found out it's recommended to upgrade that installation first before loading the data into the cloud.

Can this be done using the trial version? It seems redundant to have to buy an onpremise key when our goal is to upgrade to the Cloud

Is your 5.2 licence valid?  If so, it will let you upgrade to the latest version.

If it has expired, then you'll only be able to upgrade to the last release made before the expiry date, but that might well be "high enough" to do the export.  If it's not, then it gets a bit more fiddly, but an evaluation licence should work.
