Display sum of custom field values of linked issue

Hi Team,

We have 2 levels in issue type

Program - Level 1

Project - Level 2

Program is composed of multiple projects, we used Linked issues field to define this relationship

Now we would like to perform a sum of a custom field (numeric) in projects and populate it in the appropriate field in program

We understand this can be done by a custom field "Calculate number field", please guide us more on this on how to do it

I can advise a solution using a plugin but I will need more information : 

1. What is a program? is it an issue?
2. you say that "Now we would like to perform a sum of a custom field (numeric) in projects" : Have you added a custom field to the project using a plugin?

Can you please give detailed info (or a use case)?

You can only achieve this by implementing a custom plugin.
