Did quick filters on the backlog in Jira break recently?

RohanTalip June 20, 2019

Quick filters in our backlog view in Jira used to work a day or 2 ago.

This morning they are not working: I can click on the quick filter labels and they appear selected but the backlog doesn't update to show the filtered issues.

Quick filters are working as expected in the sprint view.

I'm using Chrome 74 and I tried it in a guest window with no extensions with the same result.

The backlog view shows a couple of errors in the JavaScript console:

  • error while triggering: Cannot read property 'name' of undefined
  • Uncaught (in promise) SyntaxError: Invalid regular expression: /chat[/: Unterminated character class
    at new RegExp (<anonymous>)

The errors might be unrelated, but they do look suspicious.

Hmm, I figured it out.  I had previously typed "chat[" (without the quotes) in the search box.  The "[" was a typo on my part.

However, even after clearing the search box or typing a new search term or clicking on the "Clear All" button, the broken search term still stays in the URL in the browser, and nothing changes in the backlog.

Something tells me that the search box could do with better sanitising.

I'll file a bug.

FYI, the "[" is the shortcut key to open and close one of the panels in Jira, so it is quite easy to type into the search box by mistake.
