I am unable to Start the sprint, End the sprint, Create a sprint. Even unable to create release tags.
I am administrator of three different boards and issue persists on all. What can I do to resolve this

Hi,

If you can’t start/end/create sprints or create releases—even as a board admin—the issue is usually **missing project permissions**, not board permissions.

Board admin rights alone are not enough.

**Check these permissions in the project:**

✅ **Manage Sprints** — required to create/start/end sprints
✅ **Schedule Issues** — sometimes needed for sprint planning
✅ **Administer Projects** — for full control (recommended)
✅ **Manage Versions** — required to create release versions/tags

**What to do:**

* Ask a Jira Project Admin or Site Admin to review your permissions
* Ensure your role/group is included in the project’s permission scheme
* Confirm you have permissions on the specific project (not just the board)

You likely lack required project-level permissions. Once those are granted, sprint and release actions should work normally.

Hello @Ishoo Garg ,

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community :)

As @Prasanna Ravichandran rightly mentioned, just being board admin isnt enough for managing sprints, you need to have specific set of permissions inorder to be able to manage sprints

1. Make sure to have manage sprint permissions on the space where the sprint is located

2. Also make sure to take a look at the filter query the board is using where the sprint is located and if the query includes multiple spaces/projects, make sure to have manage sprint permissions on all the spaces.

Thank you
