Dependencies: 'earliest end is start of' does this do anything?

Joe Chapman August 1, 2024

I have an Epic with 5 Tasks. Each task must be completed in sequence. Task 1 has a dependency link 'earliest end is start of' to Task 2, and so on from 2 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to 5.

However, when looking at the timeline or the start dates of the successive tasks, nothing updates when a task is completed. E.g., if I set the status of Task 1 to done, nothing happens with Task 2: the start date doesn't change, nothing changes in the Timeline other than Task 1 turning green.

Do these types of dependencies actually do anything, or is managing all of the dates manual? Is additional automation required to actually shift things around automatically?

Hi Joe,

Can you provide some screenshots? That would help give us context. But in general, the completion of a task will not cause something to automatically happen without some additional automation rules. The system is not going to assume you want something in particular to happen just because you complete a task.
