Hello, we are currently looking to delete an older user we have and dont use.
We are wondering what happens to his replies on tickets and his comments, if he is deleted do they stay?
Is it possible to transfer to another user?
Hi @nikiforos_plastiras ,
The underlying data will not be touched or removed, however if a user is fully deleted, the reference to that user will be gone and you'll see it as "former user".
If you however deactivate or suspend the user (thus removing any license and access) the reference will still be there too.
Comments/tickets/... are not removed. (just a little redacted)
Hi @nikiforos_plastiras ,
Welcome to the Community!
When you delete a user in Jira Cloud, their contributions like comments and replies are preserved, but their identity is anonymized.
Impact on Comments and Replies
When an account is permanently deleted, the user's personal data is removed from Atlassian account services. However, Jira does not delete the user's work items or comments Instead, the user's name will be replaced with "Former user" wherever they were mentioned or credited as the author of a comment.
Transferring Data to Another User
While you can transfer some data, Jira Cloud currently does not support the direct migration of comments or work logs from one user to another
There are active feature requests for these capabilities which you can vote and watch
Comments: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-41196
Work logs: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-77171
You can, however, manually transfer other items before deletion:
Issues: Use the Bulk Change feature to reassign issues where the old user is the Assignee or Reporter.
Filters and Dashboards: You must manually change the ownership of shared filters and dashboards to a new user.
Automation Rules: Use the Transfer User option in global automation settings to replace the old user with a new one across all rules.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Mayuresh
